When adrift in the Sea of Anxiety, jump into God’s life raft.

In the multitude of my [anxious] thoughts within me, Your comforts cheer and delight my soul! – Psalm 94:19, AMP

I don’t care how solid you are in your relationship with The Lord, you are not immune to thoughts of anxiety. You may be able to withstand a greater level of life’s troubles than a less mature Christian, but sooner or later, you’ll reach the point at which you will be overrun by anxiety, doubt, and fear.

We all have our ways of coping with trouble, but the only coping mechanism that works is snuggling up to God when trouble snuggles up to us. As the psalmist put so well in Psalm 94:19, God’s comforts cheer and delight our souls when we find ourselves in the tempestuous Sea of Anxiety. Instead of drowning in our troubles, we can be saved from the anxiety they create by jumping into the life raft of God’s encouragements.

God’s life raft of comfort is the Bible.  As Romans 15:4 (AMP) tells us:

For whatever was thus written in former days was written for our instruction, that by [our steadfast and patient] endurance and the encouragement [drawn] from the Scriptures we might hold fast to and cherish hope.

When we find ourselves adrift in the Sea of Anxiety, we will also find that, floating right next to us, is God’s Holy Word. All we need do to exit the Sea of Anxiety and to enter into His rest is to climb into the Word. Within the confines of God’s encouragement, the sea will lose its power to drown us.

Diving into God’s Word won’t necessarily eliminate our troubles. But, diving into God’s Word will eliminate the anxiety the trouble causes. With the anxiety defeated, the trouble has no sting.
