To find God, follow the proofs that lead to Him.

…even though you do not believe Me…[at least] believe the works… – John 10:38, Amplified Bible

God expects us to believe in Him, but God does not expect us to believe in Him blindly. He willingly leaves a trail of proofs that lead us to His throne, and all we need do to find Him is follow the clues He has given us.

In John 10, Jesus is speaking to a crowd at the temple, and many were challenging Him to plainly state whether or not He was the Messiah. In response, Jesus answered them plainly, “Yes,” and He reminded them that He had told them plainly many times before. In return for His plain answer, the people picked up stones to cast at Jesus, accusing Him of blasphemy by equating Himself with God the Father. Then Jesus said something that should appeal to any open-minded skeptic. He said:

37 If I am not doing the works [performing the deeds] of My Father, then do not believe Me [do not adhere to Me and trust Me and rely on Me].

38 But if I do them, even though you do not believe Me or have faith in Me, [at least] believe the works and have faith in what I do, in order that you may know and understand [clearly] that the Father is in Me, and I am in the Father [One with Him].

– John 10:37-38, Amplified Bible

In short, Jesus was saying, “Okay, skeptics, not only am I telling you that I am the Messiah; I am proving it to you with all of these miracles I’m doing. If you won’t listen to what I say, at least take heed to what I am doing because these works prove that I am God.” Despite these proofs, the skeptics continued to pick up stones to throw at Him, and Jesus had to leave the temple.

God continues to work miracles today for people all over the world. None of His miracles are more common or more welcome than the miracle of a changed life. Drug dealers, prostitutes, murderers, adulterers, those consumed with bitterness – people from all walks of life and from all depths of sin have been freed from the enslavement of and the penalty of sin by the atoning blood of Jesus Christ. When a despairing life filled with conflict has been turned into a life of hope and peace, that is a miracle of healing that Christ alone can do.

When you talk with skeptics who question God’s existence, feel free to point out scientific, mathematical, and logical proofs that God is who He says He is. But do not neglect the fact that the best proof of God’s existence is the miracle of a changed life. Be sure to point skeptics to examples of changed lives that you know of; and, of course, the best example you can give is how Christ changed your life.
