Lessons from a 6-year old Yo-Yo phenom.
Practice what you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, and model your way of living on it, and the God of peace (of untroubled, undisturbed well-being) will be with you. – Philippians 4:9, Amplified Bible (AMP)
If you take the time to watch the video below, you’ll undoubtedly come to the same conclusion that I did: “This kid is amazing!”
At the tender age of six, this young phenom has mastered the Yo-Yo with extraordinary precision. The question is, “How did he become so good?” The answer is, “Practice, practice, practice.”
In the real estate world, there is one factor that influences the value of a property more than any other: location, location, location. Likewise, there is one factor that influences the success of any household, any business, any church, or any Christian life: practice, practice, practice. In order to be phenomenal at anything, you must dedicate yourself to that thing, spending countless hours thinking about, preparing for, and practicing that thing. When it comes to Christian living, so few people ever become “phenomenal” Christians because so few people ever spend more than a few seconds per day thinking about, preparing for, or practicing their relationship with God. They give a polite nod to the moral code of the Christian faith, but they never dedicate themselves to building their relationship with God. Building a relationship is much harder work than simply living by a list of do’s and dont’s; building a relationship takes considerable time. It takes time to pray. It takes time to study the Bible. And, it takes time to submit to God’s will, for each time you choose to submit to God’s will, you have to forego spending time on fulfilling your own lusts.
If you want to be as extraordinary at Christian living as the 6-year old is at playing with his Yo-Yo, you must practice praying, you must practice Bible study, and you must practice submitting to God’s will. Each moment that you practice these things, your love for God will increase, His love for you will increase, and your sweet fellowship together will make you a shining light that will draw other people to the Savior.
