God is looking out for your best interests, even when you are not.

…for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him. – Matthew 6:8, KJV

Years ago when my elder daughter was old enough to attend kindergarten, an extremely odd thing happened to me. We planned to register her to attend the Christian school our church operates, and the registration fee that year was $125. Neither my wife nor I had given the fee much thought, and we were planning on paying it without bothering to ask The Lord to provide us the funds.

A week or two prior to the registration fee being due, I got a call from a friend of mine who I’d met in a local Toastmasters Club. She had just taken a part-time job on the weekends at a nearby funeral home, and this particular Saturday they desperately needed someone to moderate a funeral. The scheduled moderator had a last-minute conflict, and none of the other regulars were available. During a brainstorming session, my name popped into her head, and she gave me a call to see if I would be willing to help out. I said, “Yes,” but only after I became aware of two very interesting facts: 1) I would, as a Christian, be moderating the funeral of a deceased atheist (What irony!), and 2) my payment would be $125!

I had no idea when I woke up that Saturday morning that at lunchtime I would be presiding over an atheist’s funeral, yet through that man’s death God chose to provide for my daughter’s Christian school registration. I should have asked Him to provide the $125 for my daughter’s school registration, but I didn’t. Yet, He knew I needed those funds, and He chose to provide them to me through one of the most ironic events of my life.

God is good, no matter what. He knows what we need before we ask Him, and sometimes He chooses to provide even when we fail to ask Him. Rest assured, my friend, that our God has our best interests at heart, and He does so even when we fail to do so ourselves.
