Who is [such a fool as] to fashion a god or cast a graven image that is profitable for nothing? – Isaiah 44:10, Amplified Bible (AMP)

You can either yield your idols to God, or God will strip you of them. If you trust anyone or anything more than the Creator, He will have nothing of it.

The main reason God strips us of our idols is because He made us for Himself, and when we follow other gods, we commit spiritual adultery (betrayal) against Him. But, in addition to that, God loves us so much that it pains Him to see us place trust in things that are powerless to do us any good. Whether we trust our bank account, our own strength, other people, our government, or some false god, we will some day come face to face with the reality that our idols are incapable of providing life in Eternity and heart peace in this present world, no matter what our circumstances. Eternal life and heart peace are the two greatest possessions a person can have. False trust in false gods prevents us from having these great gifts, and that makes our Heavenly Father, who only wants the best for us, both angry and sad.

If you don’t destroy your idols willingly, God will come along and destroy them for you. Save yourself the agony of His judgment, realize that your idols are powerless to help you, and trust God alone for the best things in this life and in the next one.
