BEST OF TQFG: You can learn a lot from watching pro wrestling.
We hope you enjoy this re-post from November 27, 2013. Be blessed! The Today’s Quote From God Team
God is our Refuge and Strength [mighty and impenetrable to temptation], a very present and well-proved help in trouble. – Psalm 46:1, Amplified Bible (AMP)
Ok, I’ll admit it. I loved watching pro wrestling as a child. I’m not sure what attracted me to it. Maybe it was the conflict inside of the ring. Maybe it was the conflict outside of the ring. Regardless, I found it entertaining in my youth, and I watched it quite a bit until my late teen years.
I liked watching the tag team matches more than anything. In tag team matches, you usually have a team of two wrestlers fighting another team of two wrestlers (although you could have teams larger than two). Only one member of each team is supposed to be fighting in the ring at one time, and the two guys go at it like nobody’s business. If a wrestler is getting beaten or is getting tired, he can seek relief from his partner by tagging him, usually with a hand slap. The fresh partner then comes to the rescue, and the wearied teammate takes a respite.
We would do well to treat our spiritual battles like a tag team wrestling match. At the outset of each match, it will be us verses Satan in the ring. If we are arrogant and proud, we will trust in our own strength, and we will take the Enemy head on. But since human will power is no match for Satan’s supernatural power, it will take only one blow from the Enemy to thoroughly bloody us. If we get back up to fight in our own power, we will be knocked down again and again. Our only hope of victory is to run to Christ and “tag” Him to get into the fray. Just like we are no match for Satan, Satan is no match for Christ, so the sooner we let The Lord take our place, the sooner our victory will be assured – and the less pain we will suffer!
When temptation comes, don’t fight the battle yourself by trying to shift your thoughts to other matters or by telling yourself things like, “I’m just not going to do that,” or “I’m not going to think like that.” Such moves are examples of you fighting Satan yourself, and the Enemy will keep pounding away until you succumb. Instead, tag The Lord at the first sign of trouble. Immediately pray to God to fight the temptation for you and to stand between you and your opponent. With Christ between you and Satan, the Enemy will have no way of getting to you.
At the moment of temptation, admit your weakness, rely on Christ’s strength, and ask Christ to be your very present help in time of trouble. With Christ in the ring for you, you will assuredly win the match, for Christ is mighty and impenetrable to temptation.
