BEST OF TQFG: Which spirit do you have?

We hope you enjoy this re-post from March 13, 2015. Be blessed! The Today’s Quote From God Team

For God did not give us a spirit of timidity of cowardice, of craven and cringing and fawning fear, but He has given us a spirit of power and of love and of calm and well-balanced mind and discipline and self-control. – 2 Timothy 1:7, Amplified Bible (AMP)

Have you ever heard someone say, “That person has God all over him (or her)?” Chances are, you have heard it said. Perhaps you’ve said it yourself. Maybe – just maybe – someone has said it of you. The question is, “What does it mean?” The answer is found in 2 Timothy 1:7.

When we are in tune with God, walking in communion with Him as Enoch did, then we mirror God’s character and God’s spirit. Like God, love rather than hatred exudes from us, even when others are hating on us. Like God, calm rather than fear emanates from us when the tempestuous seas of life have most people fretting for their lives. And, like God, understanding, discipline, and self-control are ours even when the tempter puts his best foot forward.

When we aren’t walking with God as Enoch did, however, the total opposite is true. It is when we are far from God that hatred trumps love. It is when we are far from God that fear is victorious over calmness. And, it is when we are far from God that confusion, gluttony (which means lack of self-control), and giving into temptation are the norm.

There is an old saying, “The books you read and the people you hang out with will define who you are in five years.” If you’re acting more like the world than like God, then guess which books and people you’ve been hanging out with for the past five years? Spend more time with the Lord, and before you know it, people will say about you, “He/she has God all over him/her!”
