We hope you enjoy this re-post from November 1, 2013. Be blessed! The Today’s Quote From God Team
Cursed be the day on which I was born! Let not the day on which my mother bore me be blessed! – Jeremiah 20:14, Amplified Bible (AMP)
It can happen to any child of God. You’re living a holy life, you’re serving The Lord, and you’re doing everything you know to be right. Then, disaster hits, and your world falls apart. A close loved one dies, you lose your job, or you are stricken with a devastating illness. Perhaps something outside of your control wrecks your financial world, your marriage suddenly becomes tense, or people persecute you ruthlessly for doing the right thing. Regardless of what form the disaster takes, the disaster hurts, and it hurts a lot.
Sometimes the disaster is so weighty that it makes even the strongest Christians wish they had never been born. This is what happened to Jeremiah. One day Jeremiah was doing everything that God told him to do, and in return for his obedience, he was beaten, imprisoned, and ridiculed. Utterly distraught as a result of his circumstances, Jeremiah cursed the day he was born.
When in such a straight, we can try to manufacture enough human will power to face the trouble. Such efforts will eventually fail, however, because real trouble can withstand and outlast our efforts to combat it. We’ll give up before the trouble does, and we’ll come to the end of our rope.
In cases like Jeremiah’s, Satan, not our sin, is the trigger behind the evil. Ironically, it is when we are obedient to Christ that the Enemy’s attacks are the greatest. When things become overwhelming, we can despair, but the way out of the despair is to remember the same thing that Jeremiah remembered in Jeremiah 20:11 (AMP):
But the Lord is with me as a mighty and terrible One; therefore my persecutors will stumble, and they will not overcome [me]…
When we remember that God’s might is sufficient to conquer anything, we will have perfect peace in the midst of the storm. No doubt, we will suffer discomfort, inconvenience, and pain while the crisis plays out. But we can navigate the crisis with peace in our hearts by remembering that God has the power to make all things work together for our good.
We experience stress when our real circumstances don’t match up with the circumstances we want. Unfortunately, we will have to experience this disconnect between reality and our desires many, many times in life. But, the more we learn to trust our Mighty God to use the disconnect for our good, the more accepting we can be of the disconnect, and the less stressful life will be.
