Pilate said to Him, What is Truth? – John 18:38, Amplified Bible

There is always a Pilate.

In our society today, Pilate’s question is more often encountered as a statement, and that statement is, “There is no absolute truth.” But whenever someone proclaims, “There is no absolute truth,” they fail to firmly grasp the obvious – their statement is itself a statement of absolute truth! The person who denies the existence of absolute truth deceives himself or herself and becomes a hypocrite, for in the very manner that he or she attempts to deny the reality of absolute truth, he or she affirms its very existence.

Our challenge is not to live in a world that is devoid of truth, but rather it is to discern which version of truth is the correct version. And discern it we can, through many proofs. But no proof is better than that of the Witness Himself, Jesus Christ. In John 18:37 (Amplified Bible), Jesus says of Himself, “This is why I was born, and for this I have come into the world, to bear witness to the Truth.”

Jesus’ miracle-working life, His statistically impossible fulfilling of over 300 Old Testament prophecies (click here for more details), and His being seen by over 500 witnesses after His resurrection (1 Corinthians 15:6) are enough by themselves to testify to the truth of God’s existence, power, and plan. But even Christ’s death testifies to the truth of the God of the Bible, for even in His death He worked miracles.

Secular historian Thallus wrote around A.D. 52 concerning Christ’s crucifixion, “On the whole world there pressed a most fearful darkness, and the rocks were rent by an earthquake, and many places in Judea and other districts were thrown down.” (McDowell, Josh. The New Evidence that Demands a Verdict, p. 57). Thallus’ was no Christian, but his description of Christ’s death corroborates the biblical account found in Matthew 27:45, 51. As a side note, Thallus explained the darkness as the result of a solar eclipse, which, in reality, it could not have been. Solar eclipses cannot take place during a full moon, and Thallus recorded the time of Christ’s crucifixion as “the season of the paschal full moon.” (Ibid., pg. 58)

There is absolute truth, and Jesus Christ was the human personification of it. Who better to bear witness to the Truth than He who is the Author of it?
