BEST OF TQFG: I’ll bet you didn’t know that we have three branches of government because of the Bible.

We hope you enjoy this re-post from August 7, 2014. Be blessed! The Today’s Quote From God Team

For the Lord is our Judge, the Lord is our Lawgiver, the Lord is our King; He will save us. – Isaiah 33:22, Amplified Bible (AMP)

The Bible is very practical. It is not a compilation of feel-good philosophies intended to be only thought about or talked about. It is a rulebook for how to live rightly, and its wisdom should be applied to every facet of our lives, both individually and corporately.

The Founding Fathers of the United States of America understood how practical the Bible is, which is why they used its wisdom to structure the form of government we have today. As Isaiah 33:22 points out, there are three facets of government – law making, law enforcement, and judgment of the law. The Lord possesses and justly uses all three powers by Himself, but the Founders knew that it is a rare thing to find one person who would do the same. Fully aware of humanity’s innate lust for power, the Founders divided the powers of government into three separate branches – the Executive Branch, the Legislative Branch, and the Judicial Branch – each enabled to “check and balance” the sinful tendencies of the others. Of course, when flawed human beings populate it, even the best of systems fall far short of perfection. But the reality behind the American government’s infrastructure is this: it rests on the three-fold character of government outlined in Isaiah 33:22.

As John Quincy Adams, sixth President of the United States said:

The law given from Sinai contained many statutes…of universal application – laws essential to the existence of men in society.

The Bible was meant to be applied, not just talked about, both individually and corporately. Make sure you do your part to be doers of the Word, and not hearers only (James 1:22)!
