Enoch walked [in habitual fellowship] with God…So all the days of Enoch were 365 years. – Genesis 5:22-23, Amplified Bible (AMP)
I have never had a better human friend than my beloved wife. She’s the first person I talk with in the morning when I awake. She’s the last person I talk with before I lay me down to sleep. In between the two bookends of the day, we share with each other how our days went, we ask each other advice about matters that require a decision, and we consult each other about our plans for the days, weeks, and months to come. In short, we walk the path of life together in habitual, ongoing, unbroken fellowship, and our relationship is sweeter and more joyful than any human relationship that I’ve ever had.
The fellowship that comes with a pure, sweet marriage is a perfect human example of the type of unbroken fellowship that we ought to have with God. Throughout both the Old and New Testaments, God likens His people (Israel in the Old, the Church in the New) to a bride with whom He is to have sweet communion. Unfortunately, we often don’t hold up our end of the bargain, choosing to spend our time communing with someone or something else other than our Lord. But every now and then, we encounter a special person, like Enoch, who indeed walks with God. When we do, we catch a glimpse of how wonderful unbroken fellowship with God can be, for in those people we see a peace that passes all understanding, and from them we see a “glow” that is a sure sign they have been in God’s presence.
It is interesting that Enoch was 365 years old when God translated him to Heaven. The length of his life walking with God reminds us to walk with God each of the 365 days of the year. If we do so – if we fellowship with God morning, noon, and night – we will enjoy the sweet blessings of heart peace and joy, no matter what our circumstances, that only sweet fellowship with The Lord can produce. If we don’t, then we’ll feel like we are tackling the challenges of life all alone, and going it alone produces stress, anxiety, and fear, not peace.
How is your walk with God today? Is your life filled more with anxiety, or peace?
