BEST OF TQFG: God wants to take away all of your worries.
We hope you enjoy this re-post from March 27, 2013. Be blessed! The Today’s Quote From God Team
Casting the whole of your care [all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you watchfully. – 1 Peter 5:7, Amplified Bible
This world is home to a lot of defeated Christians. Some are slaves to worry. Others are slaves to bitterness. Still others are slaves to a gnawing hurt rooted in a dark past of abuse, conflict, or neglect. Such Christians are defeated, though, not because of anything that has happened to them but because of something they have refused to do. That thing they have refused to do is to accept the invitation of 1 Peter 5:7.
In 1 Peter 5:7, our Lord is not offering to take away our worries one at a time. He is offering to take them away from us once and for all. Just like Christ was able to take away all of our sins at once on the cross, He is able to take away all of our worries at once from His throne. All we need do to make this happen is to repeat what we did at the moment of salvation – ask God to do all of the work.
When we visited Calvary we understood that we could never earn our way to Heaven; we had to cast our complete dependence on Christ to bring us to Heaven through His own work of redemption. But so many of us have never carried this same faith beyond Calvary. We’ve retained ownership of our cares, and we continue to deal with them in our own strength. We’ve never made the connection that the same God who can save us from sin and its penalty can save us from sorrow and its pain.
Christians who retain ownership of their cares will be beaten down by those cares. Eventually, they may even turn to alcohol, drugs, or some other sinful diversion to escape the pain their cares cause. These things will bring them to an early grave, but all they need to do to avoid such destruction is to partake of the One who can truly enable them to escape – God Almighty.
We need to repent of our worries the same way we repented of our sins. We need to turn our backs on our cares and ask God to bury them in Hell along with our sins. When we do, He will be faithful to do so, and we will then begin to live a life saturated with the peace that passes all understanding. (Philippians 4:7)
