God is able to do far more than we could ever ask for or imagine… Ephesians 3:20, New International Reader’s Version

Jessie and John have really been through it in recent years. Not long after the two married and had their first child, Jessie started suffering from a handful of medical ailments that have really taken their toll. Much of the trouble began after the couple moved to Florida, and before long the medical bills had really piled up.

John recently took a new job with better medical benefits that brought them closer to family. But, the medical bills from their time in Florida followed them to their new home. One such bill, which stemmed from a recent hospital stay, equated to $25,000. About a week ago, the couple contacted the hospital to discuss setting up a payment plan to tackle the debt. They were puzzled when the hospital staff told them, “That won’t be necessary.” When they asked why, Jessie and John were informed that the hospital periodically forgives the medical bills of selected patients. Patients who hope to benefit from the program must apply, and then hospital management selects from the applicant pool those to whom they will award the debt relief. The kicker for Jessie and John? They never applied to have their debt forgiven! Nevertheless, hospital management chose to forgive Jessie and John’s $25,000 bill, and they did so for one reason and for one reason only: God put it in their hearts to do so.

If God never gave us anything more than His saving grace, that would be enough to make Him worthy of our constant, wholehearted praise. But God doesn’t stop with the free gift of salvation. He keeps on giving and providing every day of our lives. Sometimes He gives in response to our asking. Other times, like in Jessie and John’s case, He gives even when we don’t imagine to ask. God’s generosity constantly blesses us, and He takes special pleasure in surprising us with His unimaginable generosity when we least expect it.

Will God’s gifts always be financial in nature? Nope. He may never choose to bless us with such a gift as the one Jessie and John received. But, one thing is for certain: He is ready, willing, and able to give abundantly to us the blessings that we need, the blessings that will increase our love for Him, and the blessings that will strengthen our relationship with Him.

God is looking out for us, even when we don’t ask Him to.
