BEST OF TQFG: Frozen into making no choice at all.

We hope you enjoy this re-post from May 28, 2015. Be blessed! The Today’s Quote From God Team

The Lord will perfect that which concerneth me: thy mercy, O Lord, endureth for ever: forsake not the works of thine own hands. – Psalm 138:8, KJV

By the mercies of God, I recently appeared as a guest on MoneyWise, a radio program produced by Compass Financial Ministries, which airs on +/- 850 Christian radio stations nationwide. During our conversation, hosts Howard Dayton and Steve Moore asked me a question similar to this: “How do you deal with ‘analysis paralysis’ when you are so afraid of making a wrong choice for the Lord that you are frozen into making no choice at all?” We were talking specifically about career choices, in particular how worries over making a choice that could displease the Lord might freeze someone into making no choice at all.

My response boiled down to this: trust the Lord to set you right if you make a wrong choice. The Bible is clear through verses like Psalm, 138:8, Proverbs 37:23, Proverbs 16:9, and Romans 8:28 that God will direct the paths of those who seek to please Him. If your sincere desire is to glorify God, then God will be sure to use your choices for your good and for His glory. This doesn’t mean you won’t make a bad choice concerning God’s will, and it doesn’t mean that you won’t suffer pain. It does mean that no matter what, God will perfect (which means to complete or to perform; Hebrew word gamar [gaw-mar’]) that which concerns your life, which should give you the confidence to take a step in the direction you think God wants you to take. Without a doubt, if God doesn’t want you to head in a certain direction, He will make it clear to you when you take that baby step! If He agrees with the step you’ve taken, you’ll know that, too.

No matter what the decision is about – career, college, marriage, which church to go to, etc. – use sound biblical decision making techniques to estimate which direction you think God wants you to go in. Then courageously take a baby step in that direction, remembering that God has promised to direct the steps of those who seek to serve Him – and remembering that He always keeps His promises!
