BEST OF TQFG: Don’t be a loner.

We hope you enjoy this re-post from January 29, 2013. Be blessed! The Today’s Quote From God Team

But Moses’ hands were heavy and grew weary. So [the other men] took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Then Aaron and Hur held up his hands, one on one side and one on the other side; so his hands were steady until the going down of the sun. – Exodus 17:12, Amplified Bible

For some people, asking for help does not come naturally. Such people live by the motto, “If you want it done right, you’ve got to do it yourself,” and they tend to be self-motivated, diligent, and industrious. These characteristics are highly respectable, but if we are not careful, such an outlook could hinder us in our work for The Lord.

Imagine if Moses had been unwilling to accept help in the battle against the Amalekites in Exodus Chapter 17. The key to victory was Moses holding the rod of God high in the air. When he did so, Israel prevailed in the battle. When weariness won out and Moses dropped his arms, Amalek prevailed. In the end, Israel did prevail in the battle, but only because Moses was aided by Aaron and Hur in his effort to keep God’s rod aloft. Had Moses refused the help, the Israelites would have been defeated.

When we approach the work The Lord has given us with an “I’ve got this” attitude, it is commendable. Nothing gets done without someone pushing to get it done. However, when “I’ve got this” becomes “I’ve got this alone because I can’t trust anyone else to do it right,” we set ourselves up for failure. Eventually we will wear out – physically, emotionally, and spiritually – and we will lose the battle.

In whatever work The Lord has given you, be prepared to be helped. Open yourself up to the reality that God did not intend any of us to be loners in the callings He has given us. Accept the help. Learn to rely on others. And, learn to trust The Lord. He, after all, is the One who has sent the help to you.
