In Patch The Pirate Goes to the Jungle, the elderly Mr. Missionary is at the end of his service to God. When he meets Patch’s crew, he lets them know that he has been praying for a replacement to continue the work. Young Samuel, a newbie Patch crew member, immediately recognizes that God has brought him to the jungle for such a time as this, so he volunteers to take over the work that Mr. Missionary began many years ago.

Sometimes, God’s call for our lives is blatantly obvious. As He gave Moses a specific assignment from the burning bush, He might give us a specific assignment through the still, small voice of the Holy Spirit that dwells within us. Other times His call is a little more subtle. Rather than giving us a specific directive, He may make us aware of a desperate need – a need only we can fill. Like in Isaiah’s case, God will make it crystal clear what needs to be done, but rather than saying, “You will go,” He asks, “Will you go?” At that moment the call becomes a test of will: your will versus God’s will.

The difference between a mediocre Christian life and an amazing one is choosing God’s will over your own. Whether the choice is choosing righteousness over sin or God’s call over your comfort zone, God will make it clear through His Word, through the witness of the Holy Sprirt, and through your circumstances what His will is. It’ll then be up to you to follow His path, or to follow your own.
