BEST OF TQFG: Arise from the depression and prostration in which circumstances have kept you!

We hope you enjoy this re-post from August 1, 2014. Be blessed! The Today’s Quote From God Team

Arise [from the depression and prostration in which circumstances have kept you—rise to a new life]! Shine (be radiant with the glory of the Lord), for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you! – Isaiah 60:1, Amplified Bible (AMP)

I have a 91-year old friend who just left the hospital for the second time in two months. Although he is back home now, his body is failing him, and he knows it. When I last spoke with him, I could hear the surrender in his voice as he acknowledged that he doesn’t expect to be on Earth much longer. Thankfully, the surrender wasn’t full of fear. He knows The Lord as his Savior, and he is looking forward to seeing God – and the wife that preceded him to Heaven over three years ago – soon.

I’ve never known my friend to be anything but grateful for the life God has given him. Even when he lost his wife, the loneliness he suffered (and still suffers) didn’t drag him down into the throes of depression. He has carried on, trusting God for his daily bread and breath, and his example is one that we all should follow.

God knows that horrible circumstances can make us utterly despair, but He wants us to remember that we have Him with us every moment of every day to be our Comfort, our Counselor, and our Friend. In Isaiah 60, the Israelites had to look forward to a time when God’s presence would drive away their depression. As Christians, however, we don’t have to look forward. We have God’s presence now!  We entered into God’s presence the moment we were saved, as both 1 Corinthians 3:16 and 1 Corinthians 6:19 attest, and thanks to that reality, we have the cure for depression in our possession, right here and right now. The only question is, will we recognize God as the cure, or will we cling to our own wisdom to deal with life’s stresses?

The next time depression comes your way, don’t run to worldly cures for the pain. Instead, partake of the Heavenly cure by realizing that, if you are a born-again believer, God is always with you and that, if you ask Him to, He will bear your burdens for you.
