BEST OF TQFG: Are you trapped in a bunny cage?

We hope you enjoy this re-post from November 24, 2014. Be blessed! The Today’s Quote From God Team

And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. – John 8:32, King James Version (KJV)

As I write this, I am sitting in the waiting room of an auto repair shop. When I walked into the waiting room, I was greeted by several floating tufts of what appeared to be white cotton. At first, I assumed that the draft from the door kicked up several dormant dust bunnies. But about 15 seconds after I entered the room, it was apparent that a real bunny – the one in the picture attached to this post – was the source of the floating balls of white fluff.

As you can see in the photo, the bunny is nearly as large as its cage. Unable to shift more than a foot in one direction or another, you’d think it would be ferociously trying to escape its container. Interestingly, though, it isn’t acting ferocious at all. Instead, it is almost motionless, seemingly content to eat its food, sit tight, and simply exist.

Observing this beast so content in its cage, I cannot help but realize how easily we become content in our cages of sin. The Bible makes it clear, in passages like John 8:34, Romans 6:18, and Acts 8:23, that sin is bondage and that we are slaves to whatsoever sin we submit to. Prior to salvation, we are unaware that we are slaves to sin, so we can’t even see the cage bars that contain us. After salvation we are aware that sin is a cruel taskmaster, but we often submit to it because we are comfortable and content within our cages. In both cases, freedom is within our grasp; all we need due is apply heavy doses of God’s truth to our lives, and the bars surrounding our souls will fall away.

Chances are you are holding on to some pleasure that you know is displeasing to The Lord. Not only is that thing displeasing to The Lord; it is also preventing you from living the fullest life that God created you to enjoy. The longer you remain contently enslaved by that sinful pleasure, the more you will be distracted from pursuing things that have eternal value. Don’t waste the precious time God has given you by remaining contently in your cage of sin. Grab hold of God’s truth, apply it liberally to your life, and break free from the cage that is holding you back from God’s best.
