BEST OF TQFG: (Ant University: Part 1) Rather than step on the next ant you see, watch it. You might learn something.
We hope you enjoy this re-post from December 31, 2012. Be blessed! The Today’s Quote From God Team
Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise: Proverbs 6:6, KJV
According to Wikipedia, “Ants have colonized almost every landmass on Earth… Their success has been attributed to their social organization and their ability to modify habitats, tap resources, and defend themselves…Ant societies have division of labor, communication between individuals, and an ability to solve complex problems.”
Deeper research into ant behavior forces one to marvel at the wisdom of God’s creation. It also reveals how studying the lives of little ants can make our lives much more effective for Christ. For example, when ants forage for food, they work as a team to find the food and to carry it back to the nest. Once an ant finds a food source, it will use pheromones (hormones that emit odors) to mark a trail to the food. Other ants will follow the pheromone trail from the nest to the food source and back again, carrying with them the food necessary for the colony’s survival.
On a regular basis, obstacles litter the trail, cutting the ants off from their food source. Faced with such obstacles, the ants immediately leave the broken path to explore new routes to the food source. When an ant is successful in finding a new route, it will “pheromone mark” the new trail so that the forager team can resume carrying food back to the nest.
How does this apply to God’s children? All too often, we pursue a goal for God, only to cease pursuing the goal at the first obstacle we encounter. We run into a roadblock, we get discouraged, and then we decide that the goal must not have been of God. If it were of God, it would have been easier to achieve, right?
Poppycock! Have you ever seen an ant give up in its mission to find food just because something got in its way? Can you think of a single missionary, pastor, Sunday School teacher, businessman, parent, etc. that hasn’t had to overcome at least one major obstacle in order to achieve a goal that clearly was of God? God rewards tenacity in an ant, and he absolutely does the same for His children.
The next time you face an obstacle in your pursuit of a Godly goal, think like an ant. Don’t give up in the face of adversity. Lean on God to find a route around the adversity, and keep on plugging away. Remember, “if thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small” (Proverbs 24:10, KJV). And, “…let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.” Galatians 6:9, KJV
Robbie…what an awesome way to look at ants, especially after sharing our campsite and food with them on the Father/Son Camp Out…haha!
Nice! Sorry we didn’t get to join you. Last minute change of plans. Look forward to hearing how it went! God bless!
