BEST OF TQFG: Before the river can flow you have to break the dam.

We hope you enjoy this re-post from December 22, 2012. Be blessed! The Today’s Quote From God Team

He who believes in Me [who cleaves to and trusts in and relies on Me] as the Scripture has said, From his innermost being shall flow [continuously] springs and rivers of living water. John 7:38, Amplified Bible

When a river is dammed, it is restricted from reaching its full potential. The flow of water is impeded in part or in whole by the dam, and in either case the river cannot flow with its full force due to the barrier in its way.

From the person who fully believes on, trusts in, and relies on Christ will flow rivers of living water: rivers of God’s grace, of God’s Gospel, and of God’s provision for all aspects of Christian living. But in order for these rivers to flow freely, they must be unencumbered. All too often, Christians impede God’s rivers with the one dam all of us struggle with – the dam of “I.” Whenever “I” is prominent in our lives, we cannot fully believe on, trust in, or rely on Him, and our inability to completely surrender to Christ halts the free flow of God’s power in our lives. In order for the rivers of God to flow through us at full force, the dam of “I” must be dismantled.

It is better for us to dismantle the dam ourselves, but rarely do we do so. We force God to do it for us, and when God has to tear down the dam, it is usually not pleasant. While navigating a very difficult trial in his life, a good friend recently told me about a hard lesson he is learning. “It’s driving me closer to the Lord than I’ve ever been before,” he stated, “because this trial has brought me to the end of myself. I can’t fix my physical ailment, and no one else can either. I’m trusting God and God alone each day to either cure me or to give me the grace to live with this thorn in my flesh.” My friend went on to tell me that he believes the Lord is preparing him for some new work, and God is having to purge my friend of himself in preparation for that work.

How big is your dam of “I”? Are God’s rivers flowing through you at maximum potential, or is the land bone-dry on the other side of “I”? If the land is parched or the rivers are trickling rather than raging, dismantle the dam before God does it for you!
