Ridiculing Christians is nothing new.

When Jehu came out to the servants of his master, one said to him, Is all well? Why did this mad fellow come to you?… – 2 Kings 9:11, Amplified Bible (AMP)

As wise Solomon once wrote, “There is nothing new under the sun.” For example, there are few weapons more precious to the opponents of Christianity than ridicule. Whenever such people are threatened by the wisdom of the faith, they often respond by claiming that God’s wisdom is madness. Though some may think this technique is a product of the modern age, it’s actually been around for millennia, as 2 Kings 9:11 shows.

Common today are the claims that Christians are fools to believe in God’s Holy Word. By calling the faithful names like “cultists,” “uneducated,” “backwoods hillbillies,” and a myriad of other epithets (offensive words or names that are used as a way of abusing or insulting someone), they strive to marginalize (to put or keep (someone) in a powerless or unimportant position within a society or group) Christians from influencing society for the better.

In reality, the fools are those trying to call God foolish. As both the Bible and secular history teach us, those who hate God have given the world constant war, tyranny, heartache, and despair. In contrast, both the Bible and secular history teach us that those who have sought God’s path of life have been blessed by God with peace, freedom, joy, and contentment. The true test of any faith is to see what kind of lives and what kind of society that faith produces, and any objective critic will have to admit that the Christian faith has produced all of the benefits – both individually and societally – that most people claim they desire.

Someday – if it hasn’t happened already – someone will attack your faith by challenging your intelligence. When they do, don’t take offense. Have pity on that person, and pray that God would open that person’s eyes to the reality that he or she is the one trapped in a lie, not you.

NOTE: Few Christians realize just how intelligent it is to be a Christian. I highly recommend you read The New Evidence That Demands A Verdict by Josh McDowell as an example of just how real the Christian faith is. Written by a former atheist who was converted to the faith after undertaking a research project to disprove it, The New Evidence That Demands A Verdict is an encyclopedia of proofs supporting the reality of Christ. The more you understand the proofs that support the faith, the better able you will be to help the haters of God understand that Christianity is Truth, not a lie.
