The sweet promise of Proverbs 3.
When you lie down, you shall not be afraid; yes, you shall lie down, and your sleep shall be sweet. – Proverbs 3:24, Amplified Bible (AMP)
In a world filled with things to fear, every Christian has the chance to escape the anxieties and terrors of life by doing the one thing that Proverbs 3:21-26 encourages us to do. If we keep God’s Wisdom in our minds and in our hearts at all times, then our trust in God will overwrite our fear of man, making fear and anxiety a very rare visitor to our souls.
Proverbs 3:21-26 (see below) doesn’t promise that we will never suffer bad circumstances. It does promise, however, that the emotions of fear and panic will not hold sway over us when our trust in God is strong. When we understand how much God loves us and how powerful He is to help us, the peace that passes all understanding occupies so much of our hearts that there is little room for fear and panic to abide.
Don’t feel like a failure, though, if you still suffer from fear. The process of learning to trust God is lifelong, and the sin nature that still dwells within us will always urge us to doubt. But as you grow older in The Lord, your trust in Him will strengthen, and you will find that things you once greatly feared no longer scare you at all. Just be patient in The Lord. Read His Word. Memorize it. Study it. Pray. As you age, you’ll slowly but surely see God work tiny miracles of trust in your life, and before you know it, your fear-filled days will grow smaller and smaller in number.
Proverbs 3:21-26
21 My son, let them not escape from your sight, but keep sound and godly Wisdom and discretion,22 And they will be life to your inner self, and a gracious ornament to your neck (your outer self).
23 Then you will walk in your way securely and in confident trust, and you shall not dash your foot or stumble.
24 When you lie down, you shall not be afraid; yes, you shall lie down, and your sleep shall be sweet.
25 Be not afraid of sudden terror and panic, nor of the stormy blast or the storm and ruin of the wicked when it comes [for you will be guiltless],
26 For the Lord shall be your confidence, firm and strong, and shall keep your foot from being caught [in a trap or some hidden danger].
