To be extraordinary, you have to first make up your mind.
Go then and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, – Matthew 28:19, AMP
Although God must give us the ability to do anything worthwhile for Him, He leaves the choice of whether or not to go do what we’ve been told to do entirely up to us. Once we make the choice to commit, and as we ask Him to supply us with the power to stay committed, the power comes.
Unfortunately, too often we choose not to go. Many times, we choose not to go because we don’t want to. It’s not convenient, or it’s not what we want. Other times, we don’t go because we just don’t think it can be done, which, of course, is a lack of faith in the God who told us to go in the first place. If He tells us to do it, then it can be done. Still other times, we choose to go with our minds, but our hearts are not in it. Half-hearted efforts for Christ are ineffective, as are half-hearted efforts for anything in life.
But when we accept Christ’s challenge – when we believe what He wants us to do can be done, when we desire to do it, and when we put both our hearts and our minds into it – He can and will work miracles through us. The only thing preventing Him from using us is our unwillingness to get wholeheartedly behind the mission He had set before us.
There is no overt Christian message in the video below. But when I watched this victim of polio carry out his performance, I was reminded that we don’t accomplish anything extraordinary until we make a decision to do something and then follow up that decision with determined commitment. Without such decision and commitment, there is no way that Dergin Tokmak could have accomplished what he has accomplished. Likewise, we will not accomplish anything for Christ until we engage in this same kind of determined, committed effort in pursuit of the tasks that He has set before us.
Whether you are obeying Christ’s command to make disciples, pursuing some personal goal that you feel He would have you pursue, or chasing a mission that He has given to you and you alone, the only thing standing in the way of your success, as God defines it, is your of lack total commitment to the cause. As James 1:6-7 (AMP) tells us:
6 Only it must be in faith that he asks with no wavering (no hesitating, no doubting). For the one who wavers (hesitates, doubts) is like the billowing surge out at sea that is blown hither and thither and tossed by the wind.
7 For truly, let not such a person imagine that he will receive anything [he asks for] from the Lord,
Decide to obey Christ, commit to pursue His path, and remember:
Commit your way to the Lord [roll and repose each care of your load on Him]; trust (lean on, rely on, and be confident) also in Him and He will bring it to pass. (Psalm 37:5, AMP)
