Here’s the cure for a crisis of hope.
…its hopes are fadeless under all circumstances… – 1 Corinthians 13:7, AMP
A soul without hope is a dreadful thing. Without hope, despair and dread run amuck, and a soul so afflicted has little or no desire to carry on.
Without a doubt, a soul without hope is a soul in crisis. When faced with a crisis, the best defense is a good offense against the source of the crisis. Upon identifying the cause of the trouble, attack it! Once you defeat the cause, the crisis resulting from the cause will be snuffed out, just like a fire deprived of the oxygen it needs to grow.
What is the cause of a crisis of hope in a Christian? A lack of charity, which is true affection for God and man, growing out of God’s love for and in us. When we love God with true affection, we trust everything He tells us. When He tells us that He will never leave us nor forsake us, we believe Him, and we have hope. When He tells us that He will provide for our needs, we believe Him, and we have hope. When He tells us that He will provide us with the strength to deal with the tragedies and trials of life, we believe Him, and we have hope. When our hope fades and life’s trials pull us down, it is because our love for Christ has faded and, therefore, our trust in Him has dwindled.
We all lose hope from time to time. When we do, we need to ask God to replenish our charity. When He does, our trust will revive, our hope will resurrect, and despair will flee from us.
