God can show you how to never offend again.

Great peace have they who love Your law; nothing shall offend them or make them stumble. Psalm 119:165, AMP

Tragedy struck friends and families of Colonial Hills Baptist Church in Indianapolis, Indiana around 4:15 pm on Saturday, July 28, 2013. Less than a mile away from the church, the brakes malfunctioned on one of two buses returning teens and parents from a week at Camp CoBeAc in Prudenville, Michigan, causing the bus to strike a median barrier and overturning the bus. The youth pastor and his wife, who were parents of a two-year old child (also on the bus) and just a month away from being parents again, died in the crash. In addition, a mother of five who was accompanying her special needs son on the bus perished. Over twenty others were injured, but reports a day after the crash indicate that there is little danger the accident will claim another life.

When tragedy strikes, it is easy to stumble in the faith, to wonder “Why?”, and to lose our way.  When we do, we run the risk of offending God, and that’s exactly what Satan wants us to do. As the book of Job teaches us, Satan instigates tragedy in our lives for the sole purpose of driving a wedge between us and our Lord. But if we love God’s law, as Psalm 119:165 states, nothing will cause us to fail in our faith, not even tragedy. Why? Because a love of God’s law translates into love for God, trust in God, and rest in God, no matter what.

Do the folks at Colonial Hills Baptist Church love God’s law? I know they do because we have a personal friend who attends that church, and through him I know the testimony of its people. But more importantly, the world now knows their love for God, and they know about it through the words of Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard. According to Indystar.com:

Families of those involved in the crash gathered at Colonial Hills on Saturday evening. Some held hands and prayed outside the building as families trickled in. Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard was inside the church at one point, meeting with them. Afterward, he talked to reporters. The families were “remarkably positive,” he said. “Very sad, but at the same time really together in the church.”

Also, Deacon Jeff Leffew said the following about those who died in the accident:

They’re with God in heaven. We know that. Without a doubt.

As you pray for comfort for the folks at Colonial Hills Baptist Church, pray also that through their love of God’s law they will have such a testimony that many unsaved will find Christ through their example.
