God give you a deed, and you accept it. That’s how you can own His promises.
Now faith is the assurance (the confirmation, the title deed) of the things [we] hope for… – Hebrews 11:1, AMP
If I wanted to give you my house, I’d hire an attorney to create a document called a deed, or title. Then, I would hand you this deed, and once you accepted it, you’d be the proud owner of my home. If anyone ever questioned whether or not you owned the house, all you’d have to do is show them your deed, and the deed would prove you own the home. The deed is the evidence of your ownership.
Jesus Christ wants to give everyone eternal life. To do this, He offers eveyone a deed to eternal life called faith*, and once we accept it, we become the proud owner of His eternal promises. If anyone ever questions whether or not we own God’s promises, all we need to do is show them our faith, and when we do, we will prove to them and to ourselves that we do indeed own the inheritance of God.
Although we take ownership of all of God’s promises at the moment we receive His faith, we do not take possession of them all immediately. The promises we own but have not yet taken possession of are the “things hoped for” in Hebrews 11:1. But, even though we don’t hold those promises in our hands just yet, they are ours nonetheless.
Faith is not an emotion, and the strength of our faith is not based on how we feel. Faith is hard evidence given to us by God that He exists, that He loves us, and that He wants the best for us. In moments of doubt, all we need do is ask God to remind us that He has already given us the title deed to His promises, and He will be faithful to do so.
How do we ask God to do shore up our faith? We simply pray the father’s prayer from Mark 9:24 (AMP):
Lord, I believe! [Constantly] help my weakness of faith!
* Several passages in the Bible, including Hebrews 12:2, Romans 12:3, and Ephesians 2:8-9, teach us that we don’t supply our own faith. God alone is the source of faith, and our task is to accept His free gift.
