Haven’t talked to God in a while? Go to Him and visit for a while.
God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord. – 1 Corinthians 1:9, KJV
Recently we sent our oldest daughter to a Summer camp for a week. My younger two remained at home, enjoying a Summer vacation week without their sister, but not doing anything particularly special. One afternoon I felt the need to offer the younger two a special treat: either go to the movies or go to a local indoor fun park. On their own, they offered me a third option: stay at home and play games with Daddy! I was stunned and moved at the same time. Rather than anything else, they simply wanted to have some uninterrupted, focused fellowship with their father. Needless to say, we spent the rest of the evening playing games together.
Not long after the younglings went to bed for the night, I was stricken with the following thought: how pleased God would be if I longed to spend time with Him the way that my children longed to spend time with me! How often we become distracted with the cares of this world, focusing on our own interests rather than taking time to nurture the most important relationship in our lives, our relationship with our Heavenly Father. Oh, that you and I would grasp this truth, that our Father longs for us to desire His time, His presence, and His fellowship. May we not only grasp this truth but live it! Should we do so, both we and our Father in Heaven will be blessed beyond measure!
