BEST OF TQFG: Don’t lament the end of an era.

We hope you enjoy this re-post from July 8, 2013. Be blessed! The Today’s Quote From God Team

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. – 2 Corinthians 5:17, KJV

It is terribly easy to become depressed when something we love comes to an end. We mourn for the loss, and naturally so. Whether we lose a loved one to death or distance, or whether we see some cherished chapter of our lives come to an end, melancholy fills our hearts when we long for what we no longer can have.

Should we choose to dwell in the past, life will be miserable for both us and for those around us. But should we choose to see life from God’s perspective, we understand that the end of one thing marks the beginning of something new and exciting.

2 Corinthians 5:17 teaches us that God is the God of renewal. At salvation, our old man dies and our new man – free from the bondage of sin and eternal destruction – takes over. 2 Peter 3:13 teaches us that at the end of time, the old earth shall pass away in favor of a new world characterized by righteousness, not sin.  And Jesus teaches us in John 12:24 that a kernel of wheat must die if it is to ever bring forth a new, rich harvest.

Many times in our lives we will be faced with endings we’d rather not encounter. But encounter them we will, and rather than reaching backward towards that which we can no longer grasp, we need to reach out to the new beginnings that are available in the present. That is God’s way, and it should be ours.

Remember, as the old saying goes:

Yesterday is history.
Tomorrow is a mystery.
But today is a gift, which is why it is called The Present.

Take hold of your gift. Seize the new beginnings that are before you today!
