BEST OF TQFG: What are you thinking about right now?
We hope you enjoy this re-post from May 13, 2015. Be blessed! The Today’s Quote From God Team
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. – Philippians 4:8, KJV
The mind and the heart are interconnected. As Proverbs 23:7 and Philippians 4:8 teach us, both are involved in the thinking process, and since what we think drives how we behave, they both have a tremendous impact on who we are and on what we do.
The human body is the most complex machine ever created, but like any machine, we get out of it what we put into it. Just like the food we eat impacts what kind of health we enjoy, the thoughts we consume impact the spiritual health we experience. If we think on things that are pure, lovely, and virtuous, then our hearts and minds will synchronize with God’s wishes, making our relationship with Him deeper and more satisfying. If, however, we think on cursings, violence, and lust, then God will distance Himself from us, creating an unsettling feeling of spiritual loneliness that no amount of human company or activity can cure.
We become what we think about. Since our relationship with God hinges on what we become spiritually, it is imperative that we vigilantly guard the very things which drive what we become – our thoughts.
What are you allowing your mind to think on today? Pure things, or wicked ones? Your answer is key to understanding why you either are or aren’t enjoying God’s peace that passes all understanding.
