BEST OF TQFG: What we have here is a failure to communicate.

We hope you enjoy this re-post from February 22, 2014. Be blessed! The Today’s Quote From God Team

But when the people of Gibeon heard what Joshua had done to Jericho and Ai, they worked cunningly… – Joshua 9:3-4, Amplified Bible (AMP)

One day when my elder daughter was just a toddler, I left the house to run some errands while my wife and daughter stayed home. Not long after I returned, it was time to start winding down for the night, so I headed towards the bathroom for a shower. As I entered the bathroom, I noticed that my towel was on the floor, so I picked it up to hang it on the towel rack. While placing it on the rack, I noticed the towel was damp, but thinking nothing of it, I grabbed a quick shower and headed back to the den for a night of relaxation.

About thirty minutes later, my wife called out to me:

“Rob!”

“Yes?” I replied.

“Did you use the towel on your towel rack to dry off after your shower?”

“Yeah. Why?”

“I gave Kayla a bath while you were away, and as I lifted her out of the tub, she went potty all over the floor. I used your towel to mop it up.”

Off to the bathroom I went for my second shower of the night.

When we fail to communicate important information to one another, our miscommunication can result in less-than-desirable circumstances. This is just as true when we fail to communicate with our Lord, for when we fail to converse with Him, we make decisions without having all of the facts. The decisions we make on false assumptions are decisions that usually result in difficult times for us. We could have avoided those difficult times simply by seeking God’s advice through the study of His Word, through communing with Him in prayer, and through counseling with His people

Joshua thought he had all of the facts when he made a pact with the Gibeonites, but it didn’t take long for him to figure out that he didn’t. Had he asked God for His advice – like he had so many times before – then God would have revealed to Joshua the Gibeonites’ deception BEFORE he made a bad pact. Before we enter relationships or projects with friends, spouses, business partners, employers, employees, churches, or any other individual or group, we need to seek the Lord’s input on the matter. If we do, God will answer our prayer for wisdom. It will then be up to us to listen to and to act upon what He tells us.
