BEST OF TQFG: Lessons from the Honey Badger: Part 1
We hope you enjoy this re-post from March 2, 2015. Be blessed! The Today’s Quote From God Team
Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise: Proverbs 6:6, KJV
Proverbs 6:6 challenges us to look to God’s creation for some of life’s lessons, which brings me to this question: Have you ever heard of a honey badger? Neither had I, until recently. Native to areas of Africa and Asia, honey badgers are hunters and scavengers. They will attack beehives to consume honey and bee larvae. They will eat insects, frogs, tortoises, rodents, turtles, lizards, snakes, eggs, and birds. And, they will rummage through trash cans and invade houses to consume whatever they can find.
Honey badgers have a reputation for being fearless. Their reputation is so well known that The Guinness Book of World Records has identified the honey badger as the most fearless creature on Earth. The average honey badger stands roughly one foot high and approximately three feet long, yet honey badgers have been known to fight off lions, leopards, hyenas, and many more animals larger and stronger than themselves. In one video I reviewed, I even saw a honey badger run off a rhinoceros!
What makes honey badgers so fearless? Despite the many explanations the world might give for the startling courage of honey badgers, the truth is this: God made them that way. Their instincts, their attitudes, their fighting techniques, and their bravery all come from their Maker. Without His provision, they would be devoid of their admirable characteristics.
We value fearlessness and bravery so much because so few of us really possess it. The reason so few of us possess it is because we haven’t allowed the Maker to give it to us. As 2 Timothy 1:7 (Amplified Bible) states:
For God did not give us a spirit of timidity (of cowardice, of craven and cringing and fawning fear), but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of calm and well-balanced mind and discipline and self-control.
Power, bravery, and discipline come from God, and if we don’t ask him for it, we won’t have it.
Are you consumed by fear? Then ask God in faith to take away the spirit of fear and replace it with His spirit of power. Remember, as Matthew 7:7-8 teaches us, you must keep on asking if you want God to supply you with courage on a regular basis. One prayer won’t earn you God’s spirit of power for a lifetime. It takes constant prayer for consistent courage. Also, remember that God will answer your prayer in direct proportion to your faith. Half-hearted, half-believing prayers – no matter how constant – will leave you without God’s power. As Matthew 21:22 (AMP) puts it, “And whatever you ask for in prayer, having faith and [really] believing, you will receive.”
Do you really believe God can take your fear away?
